I don't have a lift or a place to do the work myself at the moment, which is needed for a sealed trans. I talked to a younger service writer, explained right up front that aftermarket work was done, and I wasn't looking for warranty work. I inquired what they would charge me to check the fluid level. $140, just to check the level, not add fluid or anything else. Needless to say I decided NOT to get the car looked at there, and also decided not to stop over to the performance shop to talk about my winter mods, I was planning.
Someone let me know if I am way out of the ballpark here in my expectation, I figured for just checking the fluid level they would hit me for $40 tops.

$140 does seem a bit high, even if they're base quoting 1 hour labor, materials, shop supply fees, etc, but not too far off. But without knowing the breakdown of what they would charge, it's hard to say, for sure, but bringing the trans to the desired temp range, (V6 is 86-122 degrees F), shifting through the gears, THEN raising the vehicle to pull the plug takes more time...not to mention if they take the check plug out, and no fluid drips, they have to put the plug back, drop the car, add fluid and start the temp test, etc all over again. I would have hoped that they might give you a price range, depending on how long it might take, rather than the high estimate, but not too surprised that they did not.
