I'm pretty sure you will be OK swapping the battery. I can't count how many times I have had to disconnect mine for hours on end to work on it. I think a quick 10 minutes while switching will be good.

They also have 'memory savers' that keep the computer happy for a bit to swap battery...though usually those plug into an always active cig lighter...which our cars don't have. Could always connect with aligator clips.

Yeah if I swap the battery out before heading up to GLD, it's a 45-60 minute drive for me.
